Understanding Towing Services

2 Ways To Keep Yourself Safe While Waiting For A Tow Truck

When your car breaks down, you may end up stuck out in the middle of nowhere or on the side of the highway. Neither one of those things are good. So when your car does break down, you need to be able to call a tow truck service that can help you out and get your car either where it can get worked on or to your house. But your main priority should be to make sure that you are safe while you are waiting for the tow truck to come get you.

Pull off as Far as Possible

One thing you need to do is to make sure that your car is as far off the roadside as possible. Get your car as far on the shoulder as possible. When you do that, be careful because the difference between the pavement and the soft side of the road could cause you a problem if you are going too fast or you don't have complete control of your car. Trying to keep yourself safe by getting off the side of the road shouldn't cause you to be at bigger risk by some kind of accident.

Be Visible

Make sure that you are as visible as possible. This means turning on your hazard lights, especially at night. The flashing light will draw the eye, making it easier to see you. Even in the daytime, the hazard lights will help keep you safe. You can also raise the hood of your car so that your car is an odd shape. If you have a piece of material that you can tie around an aerial on your car or put so that it flutters when the wind blows, that would be a really good idea to use. Your eye is drawn to movement, and lets you know that there is something there that you need to pay attention to. So when the drivers coming towards you see something fluttering and moving near your car, their eyes will be drawn to your car and they are more likely to miss you. It can also help the tow truck driver see you when they are on their way and trying to get to you.

If you are broken down on the side of the road and you are waiting for your tow truck to come pick you up, there are a lot of things you can do to keep yourself safe.
