Understanding Towing Services

Signs That Tell You That You Should Have Your Vehicle Towed To The Mechanic

If you have a vehicle that is having some mechanical problems, you will need to get it to your trusted mechanic as soon as possible. However, before you attempt to drive it there on your own, you might want to consider whether you need to have it towed instead. Professional towing services may help you avoid many more problems than just the mechanical problem that you are currently aware of. Here are some signs that tell you that you should have your vehicle towed instead of driving it yourself:

Your Brakes Are Giving Off A Terrible Odor

As long as your brake pads are not too bad, you can usually drive the vehicle to the mechanic. However, if you have found that there is a odd or burning smell coming from the front of your vehicle, such as from around the wheels, then this is a good sign that you need to stop driving it right away. This smell usually becomes apparent when the brake pads have been worn down to nothing but the metal brackets. The smell is the result of the metal brackets grinding against the metal rotors. Since you no longer have proper braking power, the vehicle will need to be towed to the mechanic for safety purposes.

The Vehicle Is Pulling Extra Hard To One Side

When a vehicle is in need of an alignment, it will usually pull to one side or the other. If there is just a slight pull and you are able to easily remain in control of the steering wheel, you should be fine to drive it to a nearby mechanic. However, if the pull is severe and you find that you have to struggle with the steering wheel in order to keep the vehicle within the lines on the road, you will want to call for a tow truck. Also, the longer you drive a vehicle that is out of alignment, the more likely it is that you are going to ruin the tires. If the tread on the tires wear down too much, metal wire can start to poke through and then the tire could blow out while you are driving down the road.

Should you experience any of those problems, or any others that cause you to pause with concern, you will want to get in touch with a local tow truck company. Just make sure that you are confirming their hook up cost and price per mile before you agree to hire them for the tow.
